It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

Christmas movies are often a key part in getting into the holiday spirit. Every year, millions of people watch and enjoy both old and new Christmas movies. For this article, we got students' opinions and recommendations on Christmas movies and which ones to watch, whether that’s all year long, or during the holidays.
To start off, we asked students their personal favorite Christmas movies.
One student brought up cult classics.
“Christmas Story is a classic. All of the Home Alone movies, even the ripoffs,” junior Vivienne Bennett mentioned.
Another student also mentioned cult classics.
“The old animated Grinch,” junior Calder Volbright stated.
Sometimes, people will watch certain movie(s) during the holidays as part of a tradition. We asked students what these movies were for them.
One student mentioned a non-traditional Christmas movie.
“Me and my family watch Paddington a lot, like every Christmas. It is not a Christmas movie, but it’s a Christmas movie to me and that’s what matters,” junior Declan O’Brien shared.
Some students brought up popular choices with others.
“The last few Christmas’ have been Home Alone,” junior Calder Volbright commented.
Although Christmas movies are majorly beloved, some people believe certain Christmas movies to be overrated. We got some opinions on Christmas movies some students aren’t the biggest fan of.
Some students mentioned beloved Christmas movies.
“I don’t like Elf either,” junior Shelby Schonbok remarked.
Other students brought up animated Christmas movies.
“Polar Express. It’s lowkey boring and the animation’s bad,” junior Vivienne Bennett shared.
Some people prefer specific genres to watch when it comes to Christmas movies, whether that’s to get into the holiday spirit more, or just a personal preference. We asked students what that genre was for them.
One student had talked about Christmas movies that would make them laugh.
“I like comedies, ‘cause they embodied the holiday spirit while also being funny,” junior Calder Volbright stated.
Another student touched on the idea of Christmas movies with more depth to them.
“I appreciate a kind with like, actual story building and world building, whatever the case may be, as opposed to just stuff,” junior Declan O’Brien said.
For our next question, we asked students if they would watch Christmas movies during other parts of the year, or leave them strictly for the holiday season.
Some students mentioned the idea of watching them during other seasons.
“I would watch it in the Fall as well because I like the whole vibe of the cold and stuff,” junior Vivienne Bennett said.
Other students are leaving Christmas movies only during the holiday season.
“I think I would only watch them during the holidays because in general, I’m not a big fan of the wintertime,” junior Shelby Schonbok shared.
With the holiday season approaching, Christmas movies are a popular way with students to get into the holiday spirit. Multiple cult classics are still beloved to this day to watch and enjoy. Christmas movies of all kinds are enjoyed among students, whether it’s comedies or movies with more depth to them.
