Perfect Jobs for VHS Students

Having a job in high school has many benefits. It helps students learn about important things like responsibilities, time management, financial responsibility, and gain real-world experience. Having a job looks good on college applications. It's a big part of a high school experience, and it shows qualities such as a good work ethic and communication skills.

Sophia Cagle has been working at Vashon Pizza which is located in the IGA grocery store for almost two years now.

¨My favorite part about working there is getting to work with my best friend and I really enjoy making pizzas,¨ Cagle said.

Sophia recommends the Veggie pizza because it’s very pretty and has a large variety of toppings.

“I would definitely recommend this job to other teenagers because they are very lenient about taking time off, and everyone there is very kind. It has just been a great first job to have,¨ Cagle continued.

Julia Stroble has been working at the pharmacy for seven months now, and really enjoys it. Many other students at VHS also work there. Julia says her favorite co-worker is Ren Colvos.

¨My favorite part about working at the pharmacy is the staff because they are all very nice and fun to be around. I also really like the stuff that they sell,¨ Stroble said.

¨I would one hundred percent recommend the pharmacy to other students because there's lots of other students there and overall it's a very calm and happy environment,¨ Stroble said.

Fiona Sherpa has been working at the Glass Bottle Creamery for a year and a half. Some other VHS students that work there are Chloe Gonter, Macy Nicolino, Oliver Bresnik, Zach Merrigan and Calder Volbright.

¨My favorite part about working at the Creamery is getting to work with my friends, and free ice cream!¨ Sherpa said.¨It's been a very good first job to have because it gives you real life experience and it’s a low stress environment.”

Fiona recommends the Banana Pudding flavor mixed with the Cookies and Cream. ¨ It's the best duo!¨ Sherpa said.

The Creamery has a large variety of ice cream flavors that is entirely home made..

¨I would recommend the creamery because all of the coworkers are very welcoming and really make you feel at home. I’m very grateful for this job and the opportunity to grow and learn new things while spending time with my friends,¨ said Sherpa.

Having a job in high school prepares students for future career challenges and helps them manage their time effectively. Students will learn how to balance work and academics, which helps build a good work ethic, while also improving organizational skills. Overall having a job in high school helps a person grow into a successful and independent adult. High school jobs are a crucial step toward a happy and fulfilled future.
