At VHS, we have a wide variety of different styles and people with different fashion senses. But how does everybody at VHS use their style, and are some a bit more aware of their own style than others? We’ll see how much people care about what they wear, and if they have any dedicated styles.
“I’d say I don’t spend that much time putting together outfits, but I like having cool clothes to put on,” Senior Jasper Allard said. This is one of the more popular views on style, because fashion is often an afterthought when it comes to people going about their days.
Some people don’t entirely care about what they put on for school, as long as they have a mixed wardrobe. This works for many people, especially since fashion is just an extension of who someone is or what they like, and doesn’t have to be extremely elaborate to look good.
“I would say I have a certain style, but I'm not too sure on what that might be, maybe homeless or something like that,” Allard said. Even when you don’t know that you have a certain style, our clothes are undoubtedly influenced by many different parts of our lives.
Although someone might not have a certain style in their mind when putting on their outfits, more often than not someone may have a style they stick to unknowingly because of their preferences.
“I like to be simplistic, but I just wear what fits together,” Junior Nolan Castro said, sharing a similar sentiment to Allard. Even without statement pieces, an outfit can come together with the most basic of things. But what in particular goes together in his wardrobe?
“I just wear a lot of regular vintage stuff, especially levis,” Castro said. Vintage is one of the more sought after types of clothes, as their rarity makes them special.
“I like wearing outfits that I like since it feels good being dressed up,” Senior Abby Furr said. Most of the time, someone's style or fashion is an extension of who they are as a person, and the more that expression comes forward, the better the outfits work for the person. But with all the clothes that she likes, does she style them around a certain theme?
“Not really since I just wear anything that I find, whatever looks good together,” Furr said. A pattern in a lot of peoples views is that they care to a point about what they wear just on if they look good or not, but they don’t particularly have a style that they stick to.
As everybody has a different view of what a good outfit looks like, it’s hard to entirely determine whether trying or not makes it better or worse, especially with how subjective fashion is. Whether you notice it or not, your clothes play a big part in your personality and your preferences. So trying or not, who can say any outfit is a bad one?
