Mabel Pekoz

Mabel Pekoz, (She/Her), sophomore, is a reporter for The Riptide. As a student in the Vashon Island School District since kindergarten, she feels rooted in the tight knit community on the island. In middle school, she began to discover her passion for literature and writing, and joined the Riptide at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year with no prior experience with publishing. In addition to writing, Pekoz is a ballet dancer and a violinist. She fills her free time with photography, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.

Pekoz’s favorite articles to read and write are news pieces. She finds great importance in raising awareness to issues and stories that need to be heard, and she hopes to write many news articles in the future. She is thorough with her research, and commits to becoming an expert on a topic before writing about it. She is hoping to improve her writing quality this year, and become better at writing with limited time. Finally, she is excited to write her first sports article, and read the articles of her peers.
