At VHS, a lot of our upperclassmen have a car or vehicle they use to get to school and around. Many people may wonder, are students responsible with their vehicles at school? Students seem to have different opinions on how responsible students are with their vehicles.
“Students handle their vehicles well for high school students,” Junior Sebastian Gallez said.
It all depends on who the driver is and how careful and courteous they are as a person.
It can be very beneficial for upperclassmen to have vehicles on campus, such as getting to and from school. There's also a lot of things that students do with their vehicles that the school takes issue with, like students leaving for lunch or speeding in the parking lot.
“Students shouldn’t use their vehicles to go places or leave town while on campus,” Junior Henry Cooper said.
A lot of people find things that some students do with their vehicles that they don’t like.
“Students shouldn’t be doing donuts in the parking lot,” Gallez said. A lot of people feel like VHS students could make the driving experience easier for others.
There are some students who don’t see much of a problem with what students do.
“For the most part, students are responsible with their vehicles and should be allowed to go places during lunch as long as they are being responsible,” Junior Ady Lingren said.
There are school staff that also have opinions on the regulations.
“Mr. Erickson and Ms. Kovacs have been good at keeping kids on school Campus because it's a danger to our school if anyone who leaves campus gets hurt,”said office manager Jackie Merrill.
There are a lot of opinions and controversy with students not following the rules and how they feel about them.
“Students shouldn’t overload their vehicles with people because it can be unsafe,” Merill stated. There have been incidents where kids have overloaded their vehicles with too many people, and a lot of people think students can’t control their vehicles as efficiently if there are too many students in the car.
The school staff states they are trying their best to make sure students are safe and using their vehicles responsibly, and that's why they set the rules that are in place. Some students have contradictory opinions to the school rules for this or that reason. What really matters in the end is that students are safe and use their vehicles to the best of their ability.
