New Girl is set in downtown Los Angeles, California. New Girl is about a girl who got cheated on by her boyfriend, so she moved in with three guys as her roommates.
Each episode represents a particular day-in-the-life that includes three things: there is a problem, they try to resolve the problem, and finally, they come to a resolution with a deeper message.
In one particular episode called “Thanksgiving III” where Nick, Jess, Winston, Cece and Schmit go on a camping trip for Thanksgiving (to test their survival skills), Jess gets Giardia from eating a fish that was contaminated by water that wasn’t safe to drink. This caused her to have really bad cramping in her stomach, but her friends helped her get through it. Everyone was very happy to spend some quality time together by the time the camping trip was over.
I love a lot of things about New Girl, but the thing that stands out to me the most is the drama with the characters. It pulls me in and makes me want to watch more. Episode by episode, I finished all 7 seasons in one month.
Another reason I like New Girl is because of the unique characters. One of my favorite characters from New Girl is Cece because she is independent, smart, kind, giving and very protective of Jess (the main character). Schmidt is another character I enjoy in the show. He's nice and funny and has to deal with a bad case of OCD, (obsessive compulsive disorder). It gets so bad that he can’t control how much he needs to be clean. Nick is also an interesting character in New Girl because he loves living with his roommates. New Girl has a community that is supportive, a little chaotic, but still warm and welcoming. You'll love New Girl if you love sit-coms, drama and/or problematic T.V. shows. New Girl is problematic because there are a lot of different points of view of a certain situation, and it can get confusing from time to time.
Although it is a favorite show of mine, there are also reasons why it may not be the best for others. There is not much of a plot because all the episodes end in very similar ways. The show is no longer on Netflix, so viewers will need access to Hulu or Prime Video.
A few more problems with the show are, the title “New Girl” has become inaccurate over time because there is way more than one point of view, and Winston's professional progression and Coach's confusing role added to the very uneven character journeys in New Girl. Another thing is you always know that whatever problems the characters have, they will always get resolved.
All of this to say, New Girl is still my number one choice for T.V. shows. New Girl has been my go-to show to watch during sleepovers, and if I'm looking for something to watch alone knowing that I can fall asleep and not need to catch up on all the episodes I missed.
